Need help with foam!

Hey guys, its winter again... which means i'm BORED!!!

I want to make some parts and want to be able to use some type of foam that i can easily form and mold with simple hand tools to cover in fiberglass or metal

What kind of foam do you guys recommend? I need something stiff and wont flake off when i try and shape it.

Thanks!

The guys I know that form fiberglass usually use modeling clay as the base mold. It is much more durable than foam, and pretty cheap.

Clay is a good idea, but not that practical for me :(

Thanks! Only took me 3 years! LOL

I was thinking about making a new center console, or maybe some art project my last mold didnt work out so well. But that was my fault. I just need some good foam to work with that wont come off in chunks like my last effort did.

There is some blue foam boards that used for building insulation. They are pretty strong and can be found in different thicknesses. Can easily be formed with handtools like files and hacksaws.

www.expresscomposites.com has what you need for a great price. Just mix 2 parts in a square form a little bigger than the part you're making and start carving in a few hours.
