an fittings and teflon tape?
 

ive never used an fittings before.is it neccessary to use teflon tape on these connections?

I never have. I thought they were a flare fit. Like brake lines.

No, not needed.

But it is a good idea to put a bit of oil on the threads when making the hose end so the threads don't gall.

but I dont when we deal with brake lines.

On a fitting the NPT side I always use a sealant on the flare or hose end side none just a lubricant to resist galling and do not over tighten

The threads don't play a role in the sealing, the flared contact area between the two components forms the seal. The threads only provide the clamping force. No need to use teflon tape (or any sealant of any kind) on the threads. I use silver anti-sieze compound (a very very small amount) on the threads, I have never seen anything that worked as well to prevent galling of aluminum threads on AN fittings...Just my $.02 -Rob

Silver anti-sieze is my fav as well on the 37*flare side but still a fitting has usually a npt thread such as 1/4 3/8/1/2 npt that you are threading into something fuel pump intake what have you on the npt side the threads ARE the seal and I always use something on that side. Ill post a pic later as not to confuse, now an fittings that have a seat on the other side such as brakes hydroboost some fuel logs and regulators I only use anti-sieze on them

getting ready to install my ricks tank with the pump in it.sounds like ill tape the fitting directly off the tank and anti seize the rest.thanks again.
