This is Steve on Bill's computer:

Here's the deal with the March issue.

It was set to be a "Paint and body issue". For this we needed to shoot a cover. Johnny asks me to find a bright colored musclecar that we could shoot in a paint booth type deal.

Well, my '68 was at a paint shop and is a fairly bright color. Plus the guys at Best Of Show Coachworks are great to work with. The car isn't done but it was done enough for the shot. The graphics people killed the real color of the car. It looks like tomato soup on the cover. The pic inside the magazine (the paint story) was shot by me and more closely resembles the real color of the car.

So, I sorta lucked out to get the cover..

Next month (April) the issues is all about the story. Three stories and sharing the cover.

I just got my issue of hotrod in the mail 2 days ago and fuel is featured in it with beautiful pics. Or did everyone already know that cause I dont see anyone mentioning it.

How did you guys (PHR) ever allow this to go to press? I have been in the paper/ printing business for over 20 years. This is a huge mistake. Someone missed the boat big time signing off on this. Very embarrassing, I would be suprised if someone did not loose his/her job over this. Sorry to hear that, PHR has made great strides in both their articles and photo quality. Just a bump in the road I guess.

No need to get overly dramatic Roger... Remember that the story and infact the image of my car was NOT about "my car". It was simply a prop to illustrate our "paint and body" issue of PHR. I'm sure they just wanted to pump up the color to make it pop more on the newstand. Someday when there's a feature on the car it will be more important to have the images look more like the car.

Anyways, it's fun to have the car on the cover and anyone that has been following the stories inside the magazine knows what color the car really is.

I should dig up the shot I did for the cover that didn't make it. I thought it was pretty cool even if it was of somebody elses car.

I have not received my copy yet. Are you telling me that the cover was made to look like someone else's car instead of your's? Or just a generic car, if so no big deal. However, I thought it went to press knowing that someone screwed up at pre-press and yet it still made it into circulation. Sorry if I was mistaken.
