Camaro X Oil Reservoir
Can anyone tell me what Mark Stielow used in his Camaro x for the Dry sump reservoir? It looks like he used an aftermarket one and I was wondering why he didn't use the GM one!
I liked to know this too. And what kind of oilpan it has? Does the stock LS7 work with stock steering gear? And is there any heat issues with ATS headers ?? https://lateral-g.net/stielow/16.jpg it looks the plug boot is quite close?
It's a Peterson 8 quart tank and a Peterson remote breather mounted alongside. The pan is from ATS.
EDIT, the headers aren't that close. That's just an optical illusion from the angle that I took that picture at. Here's another pic of the ATS headers: http://www.lateral-g.org/events/sema2006/008.jpg |
Thanks Scott!!! Do you have any photos of the sump setup? Why did he have to change the pan? Was it not compatible with the sump setup? Was there a performance gain in his going with the Peterson can and breather?
Yes thanks Scott for update. I think the sump was because of stock steering system. I wonder why Mark didnt use front R&P kit like BRP has?? And yes if you can Steve, let us know why not stock gm dry sump tank and brather??
I'm sure Mark had several reasons for not using the stock tank, but one thing he specifically mentioned was packaging. I don't recall off hand how tall the stock tank is.
I see....so it was more of a packaging issue rather than performance!
I used a Peterson 2 gallon dry sump tank. It was alot cheaper the the OE peice and was set up with -12 AN fittings and fit my car better. ATS made the pan to fit a stock front sub frame. I just sent the whole feature on the engine install to Hot Rod so it will be out soon.

Thanks so much for the direct input. I will check into it and if the Peterson unit is cheaper than why not. I assume the performance is the same for both or is one better than the other packaging aside? John |
LS7 Dry Sump Reservoir Tank Dimensions
I've been searching on here and all over the web and have not been able to find information on the size and dimension specs of the Dry Sump Reservoir tank for the LS7 engine. Can someone provide these for me? If the OEM is not suitable because of size constraints I will go with a setup like Marks!
Thanks!! John |
