tires, wheels, and nitrous
I have a couple questions.
I own a 1969 Camaro SS that has 2" drop spindles and a 2" drop in the rear. I need to know what size mickey street et's I can use and what wheel will fit the best? I am in Iraq and I am trying to order the wheels and tires for when I get home. That way I can throw them on and go to the track. My second questions is: I have a 13:1 406 that runs 110 octane and puts about 420 to the wheels. I was wondering if I could safely run some NO2 through it? |
Who's drop spindles? Off hand, I'd say you'll need at least an 18" wheel to clear the steering arm.

Shawn,
I haven't had a 69 camaro in many years so I can't be of much help regarding the tire fitment. A few questions regarding your engine set up I believe are in order so that we can provide the best nitrous info possible. What have you done to the 406? It sounds stout, but did you choose the right parts when it was built? I would hate to suggest that you try a 250 shot only to later learn that it has a cast crank. Assuming it was built with the right stuff, I see no reason not to run a healthy shot of 'go-go' juice through it. Tell us more about it and I am sure that the nitrous junkies on this board will be more than happy to add their $.02 worth. :patriot: Many Thanks!! :patriot: |
the 406 has a completely forged rotating assy. aluminum heads. I do not have the cam specs. I was thinking about a 150 shot. Something small and useful.

28 X 11.5 ET streets on a 8" rim with a 4 1/2 backspace will fit like a glove. We have a set of these we keep at the shop to use for testing.
As for nitrous, If you have forged guts, you can spray 250-300HP with run a the mill TRW / SRP forged pistons. You will need to run 114 - 116 fuel though on the giggle. BTW, if you need help getting any of this stuff we can hook you up with NOS nitrous set ups. 420RWHP should put you damn near 10s. A 250 shot will have you daring the 9s. |
The car is not set-up for the 9's. Man, I wish. It has the stock 12 bolt with 4:11's. I am still running an M-21. I was thinking something like 150 shot.
What size wheel and tire would you recommend if I wanted to stay with 15" wheels. Which metric tire would I use, that would clear everything in the rear? I appreciate the advice. |
