What Would You Pay For This? (not a car)
 

These were made by a company called "In The news" www.inthenewsonline.com . They called me before I even got my copy of the magazine in the mail. The salesman told me about the product and said I could check it over and, if I didn't like it, I could send it back. The price: $412.50 including the $34.50 shipping charge. :eek:

The cellophane wraping is still on, that's why it looks bubbly. The panels are 15" x 28-30" and 3/4" thick. The wood looks like oak or some other type of good quality hardwood. They're very nicely done except for one thing. Where they put the two page photo together, it clearly does not match up correctly. I looked at the magazine and it matches almost perfectly so they trimmed quite a bit off. It's very noticeable. The face is completely smooth so you don't feel any edges. Whatever clear coating they used is supposed to prevent fading.

I called them today to tell them I didn't want to keep it and ask how to return it. The guy dropped the price to $249 total. Is that reasonable? I was thinking of countering with $200 or even less. That glaring mismatch between the two pages really bugs me.

Has anyone had something similar done and what did it cost?

Wow, I can see in the image you attached how far off it is.

I have several of thier boards at home.. they do nice work and it's a good way to display the fact that your car got ink.

The cost you quoted sounds higher than normal but I'm sure that's because they did it on two boards. A friend of mine just got his done. He had a five page spread in PHR and the board cost him about $180. Here's a pic:

It's not thier fault that the pages don't line up. That will happen anytime it's done from a magazine that if perfect-bound rather than saddle stiched. I't impossible to print them perfectly, but In-The-News does as good a job as possible. I hade the Camaro on for 5 years and it still looks perfect with no fading.

Oh, and $249 is a STEAL.. how often do you get a nice spread in a magazine and a spot on the cover? They look really cool up on the wall :)

The green Buick is off as well. They try the line up the most obvious part, in this case the roof, but some small part is always going to be off. Open to a two page spread in a magazine and look hard into the "gutter" you will see that they are all off to some degree.

Thanks for jogging my memory there. I do remember him saying something about putting it on two panels and costing more.

I can't remember what I paid for my In The News plaque when my car was in a magazine. I think it was close to $200.

I would keep it. Even if it is off some. Also it was a good article. I enjoyed reading about your car.

The articles are always going to be off a little unless you do what I do when we get an article in the magazine, I have dozens of them and most of them I do myself at Michaels. I have a few from In The News and they are nice but they will fad if you leave them in the sun at all. I go to Michaels and they do a nice job with the cut out and glass work. I will post a picture tomorrow if you are interested in seeing what they look like. They cost about the same or a little less but both are nice.
