winter turbo project... pics of turbos

Ok here is a repost the build should be finished in a month or so.. 31 roadster on a 32 frame, TCI ifs, and a jaguar IRS, engine is a 93 LT-4 and tranny is a bowtie overdrives level 4 700r4 the lt4 has been under the influence of a procharger for some years now and the blower pulley has been getting smaller and smallet and belt wider and wider, but it just runs out of steam above 5000 rpm, and the boost never goes beyond 8 pounds, even when we are spinning the blower to redline..

so i started to shoot my big mouth in the spring of last year, talking about how great a twin turbo setup would look on the car.. and now he took me up on it, so i am doing the conversion... he has rebuilt the engine for more boost, 8:1 compression dished pistion, big trick flow heads, crower rods and so on... so i ordered a set of schwartz manifolds, a pair of 57-trim garett t4 turbos, turbosmart 38mm wastegates, nuts and bolts...

... Stuff tas arrived!

Those turbo manifolds looks absolutely awsome!! Do you have any idea how much power that system will give ?

deuce_454 02-25-2007 01:11 PM

The manifolds are absolutely perfect in real life too, i bought them from schwartz extreme performance, but ive seen some simmilar on ebay thar were priced alittle lower, but id rather pay alittle extra and have somone look at them before they get shipped across the atlantic.. but schwartz's price is very reasonable so id recomend anyone to buy from him.. there is a small intereference but that is due to the turbo chose for this application, ill document with pics on tuesday, but we figured out how to fix it for 8 bucks, and in 2 minutes on the phone to jeff.

powerwise are turbos rated at 580 horses a piece.. but we are shooting for 750 horsepower at 12-14 pounds of boost, which should be enough to scare anyone in a 2500 lb car.

How much did that kit run you?

deuce_454 02-27-2007 12:23 PM

it was somthing like 3000-3500USD for everything in the pictures. ill have to get back to you with specific price as i bought the T70 and the 48mm wastegate for my malibu at the same time and havent recieved the itemized bill yet. and that is with on-center garretts specked for this particular application, i would have saved a æittle if i just went with 60-1's but these are just alittle smaller as he wanted response over max power

Hey Deuce,

Wow! Nice thread here! I just picked up my machined down rotors this afternoon from a long time friend and while we we're discussing my goals for the Camaro, we talked about motor ideas and we ended up talking twins. I mentionned my interest and he replied with two T04B in the shed with intercoolers.(They came off a 466 tractor truck) Now, i don't know squat 'bout Turbos but they looked exactly like yours! (ok, not as clean and shiny...;) ) But he said he had them for awhile now and had wanted to put them on a BB in a P-Up and just never got around to it. He says i can get them for 250$ a piece and 150$ for the cooler.

I guess i'd need waste gates, an oil pan and plumbing, a fuel management system, (maybe a nice fabbed sheetmetal intake w/ direct port injectors? He builds 'em!) or could i fit those on an LSX? what else?!

What do you think these are worth? I did a few searches and there seems to be a few T4 models...I'm lost here! I will call him back tomorrow to get the exact #'s on them and i'll be able to call the shot easier i guess...Maybe i can get pics too.

At that price i think i should get them and see later, but i still want to make sure they are ok for what i intend to do.

Lead.

thanx leadfoot

id get them now and ask questions later. 250$ is a reanonable price for a used turbo.. and finding two matched ones on that size is relatively rare.. doing a set of manifolds yourself insnt that horrible http://www.2quicknovas.com/bruces72nova.html this gut has 200 bucks worth of tubing from home depot/mcmasters in his. (if the housings arent on-center you will have to do somthing like this)

ill keep posting pics as we progress over the next couple of weeks..

Hello Deuce

Who is this for is it for Svends roadster? I have by the way finally got my 67 nova sedan. Now i just need to find an engine and trans. I am looking for ls1 with 4l60e.

Nice project you got yourself into here. My plan is to do the twin turbo setup next year.

After going thru the expense of having stainless steel twin turbo headers made for my project. I can see so many advantages with these tt exhaust manifolds.
They look incredible.
They are much stronger then stainless steel.
They keep everything in much closer to the engine.
They make packaging a TT project my less complex

Did i mention they look incredible.

I can't wait to use a set on my next project.

keep us updated please as i look forward to seeing them on your motor.
