Front Seat Frame Support Removal 69 Camaro
 

I purchased a set of early 90s Camaro seats to put into my 69 Convertible Camaro. However, even with the driver's seat lowered completely it is too high. Can I remove the "factory seat frame floor support"? I know I will have to put in seat bolt mounting pads. Do these frame supports offer any structural benefits? Any recomendations would be helpful.

In my '67 we removed both. Jury is out on how structural they are, thinking about having someone weld braces underneath the car. Kind of on the fence, they are welded in there very well.

We took out ours too. Not sure on the structural strength issue. I think in a coupe its probably no concern.

How did this work out for you? In the process of putting the pans in and they sure do strengthen everything. Hope you didn't do a Fred Flintstone down the street without the pans in there

I replaced complete floor pan and removed them prior too and yes it does make a big difference. I will leave them and change seats. if you really want those seats work on modifying seat.

I have seen cars come thru the shop without those sections in them, Makes it easier to install seats like yours. You could take some 14/16 gauge sections and lay them flat on floor going rocker to trans tunnel under the seat mounting area on the top of floor for extra strength and bolt your seats thru. Carpet will go over that with out a problem

If you remove those sections and replace with flat sheet metal you are going to weaken the floor structure substantially , the bends / folds/ box / structure gives it strength a flat piece on top another flat piece your just basically adding weigh.

I always thought that, I've just worked a lot of pro built cars that did it and nobody ever complained. When we install the seats I will change the tracks to a flat universal style I buy.

Maybe they reinforced by other means that were not noticeable from inside or it is what it is we all do things a bit different and that's just another route a person / persons has chosen take on they're build.
