Detroit Locker on the street????
OK guys, who's used one on a street car and how bad is the clunking???
Does the Detroit Locker affect handling in the twisties or is it just noisy? |
Handling is good. Clunking is pretty bad, mostly in parking lots and when going from accel to decel or vise versa.
|
I went with a Detroit Tru-trac in my 9". I haven't put it in yet, but I have heard that they are pretty slick.
|
Lockers suck on the street, we sell mostly True Tracs now.
|
I vote tru-trac, we have one in the chevelle put cars not finished, I had this discussion today as a matter of fact. I spoke with another that runs a tru-trac and he loves it. Quiet and it works great!

Biggest 9" combo with a Tru-trac is with 31-spline axles. I'll have 1100+ ft/lbs or 1800+ ft/lbs with race gas from a Twin turbo BB...those axles and posi won't take that for long, I wouldn't think. That's why I'm considering a Detroit Locker with 35-spline axles....

35 spline Moser 60 True Trac 35 spline.

With that kind of power, the true-trak itself may not hold up. I would be safe and get the detroit. I am running a full locker in my Trans Am, and one in my daily driver truck. After a while, you dont even notice the noise. (or forget to notice?).. or maybe its just me?

there are different springs available for the lockers to soften it up a bit. they are color coded .
