Rear Tire Size/With wheel lip mod
I am considering saving money on the mini tub kit for other areas. I am having wheels made and will narrow the rear end for perfect backspacing. Has anyone ran a 305 on a 69 camaro with lip modification? I will be doing a 3 inch drop spring from DSE
Thanks |
you will be lucky to get a 285 in there without tubs. Rybar and Steevo are running 285s with little rubbing.

You can also get a 295 tire in there. I have 295/35/18 BFG drag radials on the rear and the lips and stainless trim are cut. I had virtually no rubbing, only on large & fast dips and super hard launches. You just have to nail the backspacing.

I'll be doing the 3 inch drop with DSE leafs. I am having a full resto done so modifying the lips would be done before paint work. I am not going to be running any trim. It sounds like I may be pushing my luck.

BTW, New Opti ready to install soon. Last one I'm buying until LSx conversion - even if it sits for awhile. I hope this one makes it longer than a summer. -e |
I am running 18x10's with 275's and it is very tight. My wheel lips are trimmed as well. Rear springs are 3" DSE's. There is no way the 305's will fit. The 275's look perfect on the 10's. The sidewalls are perfectly straight up and down.
At least with the BFG KD's. |
I have 295zr17's on the back with 2000SS Camaro wheels. I think they are 9" wheels. They have 2" spacers/adapters on them. I have about 1/2" clearance on the outside, and 3/4" in the inside. I haven't lowered it yet, or driven it so I don't know if it will rub yet. Pic at link below.

And Vegas, if you run a 9.5" rim you can probably get a wider tire on there as it won't stretch it out so much. |
Fu** it I am going with 335's. Now is the time to do it. I think I would regret not having it done while its on the rotissorie. Thanks for all the advice and sweet rides.
