1st generation ls1 swap?
Hey everyone, I have a question about a ls1 swap on my 67 camaro. am I gonna have to mod. my stock subframe? I'm planning on using the stock pully system on the ls1. Also need advise on should i go with a Rack and pinion or use the stock rear steer? I ve seen you guys do it both ways. Is one better than the other?
Thanks for all the help on my 1st post of many in the next yrs. |
Depending on what mounts you use, you will probably have to remove the AC compressor and then it will clear fine. If I were to do it again, I would go with R&P steering for more header clearance.

Thanks for the reply. I really want to keep the A/C. Is there any other options?
Ive seen guys use a 2000-2002 Rack out of a camaro and they had to knotch the frame out as well. does any one know any thing about this? Just trying get a heads up on things to come. |
I bought a kit from BRP and it turned out pretty nice. R&P included plus I kept the stock ls1 AC and pulley system.

You can get motor mounts and oil pan from ATS to bolt the LS1 in with no subframe mods. Do some serious research here about R&Ps before you jump in. I`m hard pressed to name one that`s even as mediocre as the stock steering and most are much worse. It`s not enough just to bolt a rack on,you have to bolt on a good performance rack, with the proper dimensions, correct turning radius and ratio etc. and do it with properly engineered brackets that will allow for the correct ackerman and good bumpsteer curves etc. It`s not as easy as most would have you believe.
The stock steering with bumpsteer correction and a really good performance box like those done by Lee takes a hell of a R&P conversion to beat it. Mark SC&C |
