So, how was your day?
Most likely better than mine.. lol
Remember the "Penny Lives" thread? Well in the words of Borat "Not so much..." http://picsorban.com/upload/broked.jpg We should have the whole engine out today.. rebuilt tomorrow and back in completely Wednesday. Fun huh? The new quote for the day "The first 98% of building a car is easy, it's the last 2% that will make you cry" We had low oil pressure (8 psi) at idle. Dropped in two quarts and it went up to 25 psi at idle. We though it was the oil pump o-ring, maybe the pick-up tube. So far the o-ring is perfect. We pulled the cam to have a look and noticed the journals (that ride in the cam bearings) had grooves on one side and not on the other. Considering the cam is new it shouldn't of had any grooves. Thinking there might of been a heat treating issue, not sure until we tear it down and send the part to the experts. The cam was a custom grind and even with COMP working miracles in customer service it would take three days to grind a new one. By the way, the CS at COMP has been top notch. I really couldn't ask for more. Old cam specs: 230/232 .591/.595 114+2 New cam specs: 232/234 .595/.598 112 Will be a little more lopey. I don't think the power curve will change much. COMP has this in stock and is going to next day air it to me. We will tear down the block, check everying and toss in new bearings where needed. we will then tripple check the pickup tube and reasemble the engine. Will hopefully fire it up Wednesday late.. hopefully.. lol The cam scoring could have caused the oil pressue issue although it wasn't that "loose". Will know more tomorrow when we have her torn down completely. Penny will live, just not today.. |

The bitch of it is that I just sold an ARP main stud kit and rod bolt kit. I didn't use them because I didn't want to tear down a new motor. Jokes on me I guess.. Oh well, that's hot rodding for ya. Sometimes you're the hero and sometimes you're the goat. |

well, both those items aren't bolt-ins, they require machine work. So you saved yourself some money and time!:D |
That sucks Steve. Time to get drunk. :unibrow:
