LS2 Head swap
I have two different sets of heads I'm considering. AFR mongoose or Trick Flow.
I have seen write ups on both (LS2 head swap CHP Mag) heads. TFS seem to be the better of the two but, they had some hand finish work prior to the test. Any preferences for heads? also I will need new pushrods. Can anyone recommend a set and the length to use with those heads? Thanks for the help. Rich |
I talked to AFR, they recommended using crane pushrods and said stick with the stock rocker arms.
Any sponsors here that sell these heads? |

I have AFR 205s on my 5.7L LS1, with cam, headers, roller rockers, FAST 90MM intake, and it made 453 HP at the rear wheels with a conservative tune, and very mild idle and drivability. Tony Mamo at AFR has spent a bunch of time working out cams for various LSx combos with his heads, which is one advantage to working with them. |
Thanks for the reply, I ordered an exact duplicate of the cam Tony Mamo designed for an AFR head swap in a recent mag article.
The only problem I have with AFR is the 8-10 week waiting time for the heads. Summit can ship the TFS heads tomorrow. Some things are worth waiting for I just was hoping for some definite opinions. Thanks again, Rich |
I have the AFR 225 cc on my LS2.
I'm still far from getting it running and on the dyno. |
Found the AFR heads in stock at Scoggin Dickey.
Should be here by Friday. All I need now is the upgrade spring package and I'm ready. |
Like was stated above, you will likely see less than a 10 rwhp difference between the 2 heads.
For my money you made the right choice, simply because of the rocker arm issue. TFS require the HS rocker arms and the AFR can reuse the stockers. However it would not be a bad idea to send the stockers to HS to have them perform their modification to them. $250 is really cheap insurance. AS far as the pushrods, after you get the heads in measure for pushrod length then. What were the specs on the cam you ordered?? Did you order the 225's or the 205"s. Either way, will be a nice setup:yes: |
I ordered the 205's and this is the cam specs:
