Insurance update
 

State Farm has been working over the estimate they got from BOS. Seems like their biggest "complaint" so far is thier labor rate of $75 an hour.

The very nice person I spoke with today alluded to $48 an hour bing the "average for the area"..

I laughed.. loudly.

No shops that work on old cars charge anywhere near that. Heck, the last shop I used just up the street (Hot Rods and Custom Stuff) charges $125 an hour.

I can't even think of good shops in cheaper areas of the country that charge $50 and hours. much less that being the average.

Anyways, it's all part of the negotiation.

What are shop rates for shops that work on these types of cars in your area?

I'm not worried.. I will prevail even if it has to go to a group of 12 to decide :)

Steve,my buddy own's a general automotive shop and charges $105 an hour.I don't think anybody that works on car's period would charge $48 an hour.

My "general mechanic".. the guy that replaces alternators on Hondas charges about $66 an hour.. lol

If $48 is an average then there must be guys in SoCal charging a lot less (to make for the average). I need to find these $30 and hour shops. lol

I'm not sure you want the $30/hour shops working on anything you own or want running :D

Hey Steve, I doubt that complaint will be a big hurdle because in the end, they insured the guy and he was fully at fault. I had a similar problem with State Farm last year when a lady was kind enough to rearrange my Mustang's driver's side fender, bumper, wheel, and suspension to the tune of $15K...they complained a bit, but ultimately bit the bullet.

On a sidenote, I sent a client of mine to BOS. He lives in AZ and wanted to know if I had any suggestions in regards to body shops and Penny came to mind. I couldn't vouche for them personally, but you seem to be happy with them as well as a credible source, so hopefully it all works out. :cool:

Your buddy will really like BOS. They're good people.

I know this is the job of thier adjuster.. to try and minimize State Farm's loss, but in the end they will loose. They just need to know we arn't going to cave in. This isn't like fixing a Toyota Camry..

the local svt ford dealer i go to charges about 90usd an hour for doing simple mechanical work.State farm needs to pull its head out of its ass.The place that built most of my camaro charged me about 55 an hour because i ended up getting a deal.75 an hour is beyond reasonable, unless they find the number of hours "bos" requires to be alot in their opinion which is probably based on how long it takes to fix a civic.

Here Buddy this might help you. I deal with body shops all over the US and CA has always been the highest. $95.00 in some area's and could be more.
