First Gen F-Body LS-2
If I'm installing an LS2 in a 68 Firebird are my only options for a shorty header S&P? I was told an exhaust manifold from a ls1 camaro/firebird will also fit?

Also, Stainless Works makes long tubes, and Wegner Motorsports makes 4-2-1 shorties:

What would be the difference in hp and torque between long tube headers and short tube headers?
Long Tube =100 hp/100 torq Short Tube = ??? hp/ ??? torq Thanks, Ty O'Neal |

I do remember doing a 458 hp 383 LT1 in my 93 Vette, and Myron Cottrell at TPIS begging me not to run shorties, which I wanted for legality here in California. He quoted the same numbers and seem to be pretty close to what I've seen through the years. Jody |
There are probably hundreds of posts on LS1Tech.com relating to this topic, but to generalize, on a performance cammed 5.7L or 6.0L, shorties are worth minimal to no gain over stock manifolds, long tubes can be worth 20-30 HP and maybe even a bit more than that in torque. The higher end designs with merge collectors do seem to be somewhat better than the conventional cannister-style collectors, but not hugely so.
Edit: Funny, I was typing my response before I saw Jody's, so there seems to be some consensus here. |
We have a set of Stainless Works that will be finished in a couple weeks if you need some.
