My Project I named Riptide

Hello Lateral-g.net,

I have been looking through this forum for several years now and have gotten great information and ideas. I would like to introduce myself and tell a little about my projects. I have always loved muscle cars. I grew up working with my father in his body shop. He and my brother still run a body shop. I went away from the business, but have always had hobby cars and motorcycles and friends cars to work on. Well I love my time with my projects. I have completed a 1980 Camaro Berlinetta last year and I'll post pics shortly. I started this project December 2005. It is a 1967 Camaro. I have decided to go pro-touring / g-machine with this car so I have searched through many forums for ideas. I will be installing Wayne Due front and rear C4 suspension. It will be modernized with 99 Camaro interior (dash, center console and steering column). I have e-mailed some of you in the past and you have all been great help and give great advice. I will be doing most of the work myself and my goal was to have a finished product like Mr. Rupp’s ZO69, I'll be installing an LS2 pretty much stock with headers. The car has been completely taken apart I found rust and decided to have it media blasted (Paint stripper was a mess). I found a place (no kidding) around the corner from my house (less than a mile) that does walnut shell blasting and they did a great job. I will be installing DSE mini tubs and reworking a WD IRS kit so that I can bolt it in. The best part of this whole project is my 11 year old son and I have been doing this together and he has just asked if we can build him a car when he is ready to drive. Sorry for the lengthy intro. I plan to post more in the future and seek the wonderful advice of the Lateral-g.net members.

Thanks,

Here are a few pics.

It looks really cool. I kinda dig the sidepipes, but I like the retro a little.

I originally was going to exit the exhaust out the side in front of the rear tires, but I was bouncing through the PT forum and found a few shots of Ron Racers Camaro with side pipes and I was sold.

Thanks for the kind words,

You are doing it the right way with a rendering!

Thank you. I thought it was a cool way to get it going. Started off as just a repaint and possibility of suspension up grades and it gained momentum and the rest is history. Now is the hard part making it look like the rendering.

Thanks again,

THAT IS GONNA LOOK BAD ASS!!!
Good luck with the project. I like the side pipes idea too. I know someone else in this thread mentioned it.

Thanks for the complements. I really like the side pipes. My dad had a 38 Chevy coupe with side pipes and I thought it was to coolist car around.

Here is a few shots of my 1980 Camaro

Newly installed locking hood pins.

I'm a little curious. What does the 2''x2'' square tubing with the bolt in it, that is installed in the original front spring mount, do exactly?
