How much oil in a stock fbody LS1?
 

How stupid is this? I am putting oil in my car finally...and I do not know how much oil goes in an LS1. I would rather put the correct amount in the first time and then check the stick as it is an aftermarket piece.

Can someone throw me a bone on this one?

5 1/2 to 6 quarts

5.5 is what i've always used after an oil change.

You haven't cut your pan have you? If so the amount is reduced by a quarter or one and a half maybe.

5.5 with a short oil filter, 6.5 with a deep filter. I run 7 qts in mine but it's a racing engine with a deeper pan and a longer filter.

and no I did not cut my pan and using the short filter.

If I just wanted to start it I would need about 2 hours to get it ready...but I want to tiddy some wiring up and have it ready to drive when it fires.
