I remember reading something from a BGH post saying to take the O ring off the outside of the bearing before putting the axle/bearing combo into the housing. There is an inner seal that keeps the gear oil inside, so it looks like it's there to keep dirt out?

keep gear oil inb the diff when cornering or just in general... for mock up take em out when doing final assembly put them in
