A 4l80E can handle the power stock and a 4L60 will need to be built up. I would prefer the 60 because of the weight, form factor and the fact that t can be easily upgraded to be as good or better than a stock 80. a good 4l60 would probably include:
5 pinion rear planet.
Z-pack 3/4 clutches.
Upgraded bands
Billet 2nd servo
Transgo HP reprogramming kit
Double cage forward input sprag
Good external trans cooler
Thats about $300-375 in parts. Take a look at websites like at
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4l60e.htm or
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4L80E.htm and look at what upgraded parts they use and mimic. Transmission builds are not that difficult and good cores are everywhere. If you go with a 4l80E try and get a 96 or higher. There are mostly found in trucks.
