I know what you're saying about the mod motors. I just finished building a real nice 400 hp 302 that will be going back in my lightweight 1985 Mustang LX coupe. My second project however is going to be a g-Machine. I'm doing either the 1984 or 1982 GT rollers that I have and putting a 1999 Cobra engine and trans in. I'm rebuilding the bottom end and putting in some stage 2 cams and ditching the fuel injection for a 750 Demon carb. I'm going for clean and a mix of old and new. There's a huge difference in cost between 5.0 engine parts and 4.6 DOHC parts. 1 cam for a 302 - $325....4 cams for a 4.6 $1200! Rotating assembly isn't really that much different in cost. A set of assembled heads new can go well over $2000! BUT, I just love the sound of those cammers and I think in the end if I'm creative with my money, go with take off parts and work with my machinist I can make the same 400 hp my 302 makes for not much more money. But I agree, $6500+ for a 4.6 DOHC Mach 1 motor with 320 hp?????!!!!!! I can get a 302 GT40 crate motor making 320 for atleast $2k less.

On a side note though - a Z06 motor isn't "chump change" either - $13,600+!!!!!
