Well right or wrong I gave it a shot, literally with U-pol clear, I think its a pretty decent quality clear coat(18 bucks a can). Sanded the top surface with 320 very lightly and wiped it down with solvent and put a couple heavy coats on it. It looks great, don't know if it will last but will give it a try.
Steve- I would pay extra if these beautiful billet pieces were clear anodized -
