I modified my stock fuel sender/pickup by drilling a 3/8" hole in the mounting flange right next to the pickup. I then worked a 3/8" line through the hole, bent it to match the bend of the pickup giving it enough length to return the fuel into the tank about the same height as the pickup tube. On the top side, I bent it to match the 3/8" pickup line around right next to the pickup hose fitting. It has worked well for me so far. I used small stainless fuel line clamps to hold it in place and JB Weld to seal up the hole. Since it was a 3/8" hole, it was a really tight fit, so it didn't take much JB Weld to seal it up.

Hope this helps...
