I plan on doing the same with my front bumper. I'm going with a fiberglass hood and I removed all the heater and stereo stuff. If you cage the car you can take out the heavy door crash bars and the inner fenders. It may be a the same in terms of weight, but you'll be more rigid and your doors should close better! haha
