I dont think your problem is all that bad, move the right side over towards the left 1/8 inch that gives you 3/8" on both sides. Check the yoke center and pinion angle and weld it. When I did my 67 mini tub set up Kyle had no problem with my 1/4 clearance between the tire and spring. I chalked my leafs and did a slalom test in a parking lot and got real agressive left to right , side walls didn't touch. It sounds like your backspace would have been nice at 5.5 inches(no spacer) instead of 6.125, a 1/2" spacer is a lot in my opinion, make sure the studs are long enough to get a good bite on the wheel.
BTW- Im curious what was your axle flange to flange dimension?
