Default What do you guys think?

Before we started the monthly art show, the moderators suggested doing it as a contest. I thought that may not work at first because I don't want to scare off anyone that is below professional level from entering. I think the monthly show should be encouraging to newbies and rusties as well as those who do this every day to get in the game and be consistantly producing new stuff. My post for the latest show I feel is one of my best so far, and I tried some new techniques on it I didn't know about prior to it. That's the sole porpose of the show, to push ourselves to the next level.

HOWEVER, I'm a bit dissappointed at the smallness of the # of folks posting. I know it's tough to find time, especially for full timers, but if you're drawing anyway, why not just take a few minutes every month and show us what you're doing these days. If what you're working on is proprietary for now, post something old we haven't seen. Post some sketches you did on the napkin when you and your wife were on date night last week. Post a photo of the flames you rattle canned on your tool box last week, who cares art is art and all is good and inspiring to each other.

I recently emailed the moderators about going forward with a monthly contest to try to get more participation. Maybe if there were incentives??... Prolly what we could all do is open posting for the contest specifically on Friday and close posting Saturday at 11:59 pm. By Monday I'll have a poll set up for all who participated and then announce on the general discussion forum for all the non artsie guys to check out the thread and then vote over the next week. Winner will be announced the next Friday and maybe they get a prize of sorts, as well as being the king of the crayons for that month. I asked the moderators if they'd be willing to kick in a free T-shirt or something to the winner, but I have to clear all that and if we can even do this through them first. I haven't heard back from them yet, and I suspect a lot of folks are wrapped up with SEMA right now.

For the November (post up 1st Friday of December) I'd be willing to give away one of my shirts, 6.1 oz heavy weight shirt, one color front print. 2 things though, right now I have only Med and Large in stock, and it advertises my website, not sure if it's kosher for all of you to wear another artist's stuff or not. I'd be cool with that but some folks only like to advertise themselves.

What do you guys think?
