my bet is that the welds are there to support, it would seem that the plate that has the two roset welds in it in the picture is sanwiched on to the element to add extra strength (it is the part that mounts the rad. to the coresupport) instead of just hanging the radiator by tabs welded onto the element.. and having to mount the fanshroud dirrectly on the element.. and since its only welded in the ends where the element meets the tank.. the two welds are most likely there to keep it tight to the element ...

Wow. Thanks. I didn't mean to start an arguement or anything. It was just a case where the curiousity got the cat. You guys are so knowledgeable and they are closed until the 5th and I received it over a week ago and couldn't wait to ask some really knowledgeable guys--like all of you! So thanks for the input.
