I would skin the doors. I dont care myself for a guy thats been doing this for 56 years. What that says around these parts is "the guy is behind the times" With todays body adhesives that door could be done with little to no filler work. Plus the adhesives make the door stronger and the door would be alot less able to rust back out my way vs the way your guy did it. If the guy cut and welded in a patch that might have been acceptable but guess what?? he just opened the door up and now it has filler work AND it has to be protected from the backside as well. Any moisture that gets into the door shell now will put your door at risk for rust. Jus tan opinion and I have alot of them. And yes I have been restoring cars since 1986 for what thats worth.
