If I vent the system I'll assume without the pressure build up this should not happen, after all the cap has a negetive psi checkvalve and one would assume fuel should not leave the cap at all.

I had that problem, went to a new cap, and made sure it was tight after each fill up. I also had a fuel door installed in the neck. It helps, but does not help if you have a bad cap.
