New guy to this site! Yes I have a T-56 behind a Pontiac. I got mine from D&D performance, it has an adapter plate that allows it to bolt directly to the stock bellhousing, it also uses the stock clutch & linkage, even uses the stock speedometer cable.
This is in a '79 Trans-Am, it was originally a 400-4spd. It is now bored & stroked to 462 and produced 495 HP & 563 FT-LB on an engine dyno. And yes, I do get a lot of engine braking!!
