I'd start with the basics. All connections, coil wire, pull the distributor cap and inspect. Check your fuel pressure. If all checks out then it's time to see if it's the distributor or igntion box. You can run and AC voltage test on your distributor to make sure the pickup(trigger) is within spec. You can also check your coil with an ohm meter. (you will need to find the specs) If you have an MSD they are known for rust inside on the components of the distributor. That should keep you busy and figure out your problem.
