Those Firebird hoods almost always rot out at the front edge. The best repair is to cut away the hood skin and blast the rust off of the inner bracing. You can also treat the rust with some of the new Eastwood products, though I'm not sure how long they will keep the rust at bey. I prefer blasting because it will remove all oxidized material. Using panel adhesive is fine if done properly and you will avoid heat warpage.
