Its spelled Helical. Straight cut gears actually force the gear together, the engagement is by dog ring and not synchro. Most typical older trans are helical with a spur cut for reverse (hense the "whining" when going backwards in reverse) Straight cut have more directional application of force allowing for less power loss. If you ever heard an F1 indy car going down the track your typically hearing the trans whine, not engine. Straight cut gears will whine loader the faster they go.
