Good point, but being that you'll never be able to highly load the engine in the car (or probably even use high gear on the supercharger) my hunch is that 100LL will probably do just fine; heck, it's only 6.0:1 compression.

The Merlins were originally intended to use 87 octane in the pre-WW2 days, then changed to take advantage of 100 octane in the XX variant early on in the war; and I believe the 1650-7 (the Packard variant) was also originally intended to run 100 octane, but substantial power gains came from running even higher octane avgas and running more boost.

This is all splitting hairs though... and I still want to make the short drive up to Charley's place for a ride (and do more burnouts in his driveway-- LOL)
