Top posts have the most surface area for contact.
Top post, sometimes bending the cable in a compact area is an issue
Top posts, big nasty grower of green and white stuff, fun to hose down in the trunk or battery box.

Side posts are the cleanest install.
Side posts the cable is already heading in the right direction.
Side post watch out for the battery bolts bottoming out in the battery, if they bottom out or are close it will (can) destroy the battery. (you are screwing a bolt threw the battery wall, leak leak drip drip, ask me how I know.)
