If you look closely at wheels that are actually on a car during processes like you mention, you'll find they're actually thrashed when examined up close but the good news is that aluminum can be re-sanded and polished free of most imperfections. If you don't like polishing, steel wheels in the shop with the shiny wheels bagged and sealed up is the way to go.
