Considering the time frame the quality is good although I've heard of a few mechanical issues.

The owner is 1099'd for the value of the parts. They found away around billing them for the labor, but the free build ends up costing quite a bit. Still, I wouldn't turn it down.
They may have changed it on season 5. On my build they appraised the car before and after and I paid taxes on the difference. The amount I paid was substantially less than what it would have cost in parts.

As with any build the car did need some finishing touches. I will say Chip, Discovery Channel and a few of the vendors all helped out after I received the car back. I also may have lucked out, prior to receiving the car back it was in the Pirelli booth at SEMA so it may have received a little finer tuning.
