Several people with the resources to buy it really liked the car and they duked it out at the auction. I don't think there's any more to it than that.

I was showing the pics of your cars fabrication today to a friend. You literally built pretty much everything you could yourself instead of just buying a bunch of parts off the shelf. The fact that it worked great when you were done, and the level of fabrication and assembly was so high, that's why the car brought what it did. I'm just an assembler in comparison, which is fine. I know my limits and stay within them. You did a fantastic job on that build, can't wait for the next one. And I was very happy for you watching the auction.
