I went through the same decision process with my first gen. When I compared the cost of the AME subframe which allows use of the factory Fbody accessories (including the AC compressor) and oil pan and C5/6 brakes to upgrading a stock subframe with ATS spindles, Chicane coilover mounts, control arms etc etc plus a conversion oil pan and aftermarket accessories (no Kwik Performance option at that time) the cost was almost a wash. It went together without a hitch and was one of the better purchases I made on my build. Customer service is excellent and Matt has been very helpful answering my questions etc. There are not that many products out there where you can ask questions directly to the engineer who designed them and get an answer usually the same day.
