Not All toyota drivers are idiots.
Toyota screwed up the electronics in the hybrid cars. You can't power them off at highway speeds.

Every selection is locked out. Also if the car is at highway speed you cannot shut off the car using the start/off button. Just doesn't do anything. Likewise for the Park button. The car has to be stopped or at very low speed to change gears or turn the car off. Basically if at highway speed you cannot do anything to slow the car except stand on the brakes.
So not the drivers panic that keeps them from thinking, its the unfortunate design of the car.
