all the excellent input is appreciated. thinking it over i come to the conclusion that a set of dedicated 17" track wheels with R-compounds and a set of 18/19" street wheels with higher tread wear may be the ticket

'67 Camaro; AME GT front clip, T56 Magnum 6sp. close ratio, CA g-link, DSE mini-tub, Wilwood 6pots front, 4pots rear, 383 w/ AFR heads, 3.73 Fab9 rear, momo seats, morris 3pt belts for street, Schroth belts for track w/ removable 4 pt. rollbar. Wheels/tires, fuel injection, and steering column undecided.
