If you put the big block all the way forward -- you'll never get it OUT --- a cherry picker won't reach that deep.

Take some "dunnage" (aka WOOD) with you --- and a hammer and some nails - build a quick cradle (in an up side down T) -- that will pick up the pan RAILS leave it long in front or back and tie it together with a piece across the ends and support the balancer. Strap the crap out of it so it won't go forward. It will be FAR easier to retrieve when you get home.

I NEVER set a motor down on the pan... that's just asking for a bad outcome.

Autozone -- and or similar will sell you a POS engine stand that bolts to where the mounts go and picks up the bellhousing flange... probably a whopping $30...
