Read the user manual and just practice, the new cameras record the settings so you can look at the pics and see where you were when you took the pic. this is a big help compared to the old days when you had to log it down to remember. Use the auto under lots of different conditions and then go back and look at the settings and then go to manual and try to match and manipulate the sttings to get different results. After awhile it will come together.
Learning all the manual settings and what they do will take you awhile but it is all in you manual.
Good luck, I borrowed a Rebel from a friend and it was a great camera and the on screen help is very good once you get used to it.
