The more straight tube you can get before and after the MAF, the better the signal to the ECM will be. This is needed more as the cam selection gets more aggressive.

There is also a honeycomb material available that you can install on the inlet side of the MAF tube to help stabilize the flow into the sensor. Of course I can not find that info when I need to :-) With the honeycomb material you will see very little if any HP loss.
