Yep, wax will help a lot but the lower the grade of aluminum, the quicker it will lose it's shine but being softer, it will polish back up easier. There is actually a product specifically for wheels called Wheel Wax that works really well.

Washing very regularly with gentle car wash soap and a fuzzy micro-fiber mitt that is rinsed and washed regularly and not mixed with car wash water helps a lot too. The wash as you dry wax spritz when you dry them off will help keep them slick as a compliment to a regular waxing every couple months. Just like car detailing, your time commitment just depends on how anal you are.
