Also, the Coyote is a good deal but Ford motors are still expensive. If you want 500-600 horsepower out of a mod motor with an aluminum block you're looking at spending about 15 grand or more.

Yep Matt.... that was my point. HP is HP -- and the Ford offerings are hugely disproportionately expensive and complicated. Try dropping one of these in a simple application such as my '32 or '37 Ford -- and you're talking custom headers - a lack of accessory drive choices... and on and on. In the end - you end up with a very expensive homage to a "Ford in a Ford".
