I had to get a small part from YearOne and they were the only place that had it. Their website showed some standard shipping cost of $12-18 for a $5 part.
I called them up and asked them if there was something that could be done, like send it USPS instead of UPS. The person I talked to got the shipping down to $3.

The computer parts industry is the same way for shipping cost. But a $20 item and spend $15 to ship it UPS ground. If these companies would have USPS as an option it would save the buyers $ and usually get to the buyer just as fast.
