After Dynamatt, we layed down 2 layers of juke padding to help quite the car down. I have a roll bar in my car and it is tied to the sub connectors. I would not see the connectors being a problem to carpert or being uncomfortable to a rear passenger.

I plan on installing a roll bar also.
Our first thought was to lay down extra paddinig of some sort to build up the area's around the connectors like you did. But my biggest concern was how a fitted carpet would fit. If it would lay down smooth or would extra glue, carpet, etc, have to be applied.
