Absolutely. I agree that 17" is minimum and 18" seems ideal these days with what tires are available and our cars seem to like to run either on unrestricted track days or these 200 TW events.
If you're married to a certain tire, then that can easily dictate wheel size.
I am not sure all the guys that run KDW's would actually run them if there were other good options for all those 18x10/18x12 combos out there...
