I recently sent out emails to between 25-35 companies asking for sponsorship. My project will end up a ministry program and the build itself is one also helping young men to find lost values that we don't really teach anymore (Integrity, Justice, Honor, Courage are the key points). With having a message like that, and I played the "I'm a OEF Vet" card, I got 1 partial sponsorship from "Bed Rug". There were a couple of companies that I could have pursued harder "Royal Purple & Magnaflow" and probably gotten sponsorships but they want list of Shows and Events that the car will be at in the next 12months and with finding a new job this summer and everything I don't think I could make enough shows for sponsorship. Most minimum is 12 per year. All I really had to offer was internet advertising. My build thread is posted on 4 different forums with total members of around 250,000 and almost 5000 thread views between the 4 different build threads. It's hard, but it can be done. Just remember your selling something, explain to them what the benefit is to them and why they shouldn't pass up this opportunity. Just my .02 but seein as how I got 1 company out of 35 to sponsor me, my way didn't seem to work too well, probably something to do with my spiritual obligation to explain the motives behind building the truck itself, can't really teach about courage when I won't explain the whole story for fear of not getting money and parts now can I.
