To remove the steering column start by unbolting the rag joint under the hood. Then remove the three screws that attach the filler plate to the firewall. Finally, there are three nuts that hold the steering column to the bottom of the dash. Once those are removed you can drop the column down and unplug the half-round plug. At that point it should come out.
